MOSAIC MUSIC CAMP FAQ:
How should my child prepare for the camp activities?
Always an important question for kids on the spectrum! Some things to consider: Your child should dress comfortably for 2 hours of pretty much non-stop action! The room is carpeted, so we prefer bare or stocking feet for everyone (with exceptions if your child prefers shoes). The children will be holding hands with each other during some of the circle dances. There will be amplified music (not too loud) and some hootin' and hollerin' (mostly by me!).
Should I help my child during the activities?
We encourage independent participation by the children whenever possible! I will provide frequent verbal/visual prompts throughout the activities. Depending on the child's level of independence, adults may either stay close to their child or observe from another area of the room and provide help only when necessary. There will be seats for adults/parents nearby.
What if my child has never followed dance/movement sequenced instruction before?
Mosaic Music Camp is geared to all levels of ability! The dance and movement sequences will be modeled slowly, first without music, then with music. Dances and other song actions will be repeated every day to reinforce learning.
My child often makes noises, stims or dashes around. Are you OK with these behaviors?
Noises and stimming are normal and fine! However, not all children are comfortable with amplified music and groups of people. If your child’s very loud noises or restless behaviors are preventing others from focusing, then he/she may need to take a break and try again.
If my child is participating independently, do I still need to stay at the Camp site?
Yes. You may either remain in the room or enjoy our small outdoor patio just outside the studio.
Will there be a bathroom break?
Yes. There will be a 15 minute break during camp activities.
May I bring snacks and drinks for my child?
Food and drink are not allowed in the studio but children can have a quick snack outdoors on the patio during the 15 min break.
If my child finds it too difficult to participate and we have to discontinue the class before finishing Day 1 may I get a refund?
Yes, if the camp is not suited to your child we can refund your money. Try again next year!
